Danny S. Shepard was born September 2, 1953, in Colquitt, Georgia. He is married to Dawn Phillips Shepard and they have two children, Brittany, age 20, and Blake, age 15. He is a graduate of Mercer University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, magna cum laude, in 1975. Shepard obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1978 from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
He has practiced law in Colquitt, Miller County, Georgia since 1979. He was a partner in the firm of Rentz & Shepard until 1999. From 1999 until the present he has been a sole practitioner. He has been engaged in a general civil and criminal practice, handling both trials and transactions. Shepard has served as the County Attorney for Miller County from 1981-1996 and from 2001 to the present. He has been the Judge of Municipal Court for the City of Colquitt since 1980.
In July 2004, Shepard was elected as the State Court Judge of Miller County for a four-year term beginning January 1, 2005. However, he assumed the State Court bench on September 9, 2004, having been appointed by Governor Perdue to fill the unexpired term of his predecessor.
Shepard is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and has been admitted to practice in the Georgia Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Georgia. He is also a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association.
Shepard is a director and former chairman of the Colquitt-Miller County Chamber of Commerce. He and his family are active members of Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He enjoys reading and golf. |
